Brigid Kosgei has beaten compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot to emerge winner of this year's edition of the London Marathon.

Kosgei's victory saw Kenya maintain her glory in international marathons as she set a new personal best, adding the London crown to her Chicago win in 2018.

The 25-year old clocked 2:18:19 to depose Cheruiyot who was the competition's reigning champion.

Ethiopian Roza Dereje finished third in 2:20:51, with Berlin Marathon champion Gladys Cherono emerging fourth.

Three-time champion Mary Keitany came in at fifth to have her hopes of clinching the title for the fourth time dented.

Meanwhile, Kosgei's incredible run will now see her become the youngest female winner of the London Marathon at the age of 25 years and 67 days, beating Aselefech Mergia's record of 25 years and 92 days set in 2010.
