A fight over Sh200 maize proceeds in clash torn area of Kosovo in Naivasha ended tragically after a man stabbed and killed his cousin over the cash.

The 24 year old identified as Laban Balsale was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby health center following the fatal blow on the chest.

Soon after the incident, the suspect escaped from the village that for years has recorded all manner of bizarre incidents including murder and arson.

Emotions ran high as police moved in to collect the body before ferrying it to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.

According to a witness Abel Kiprono, the two sold their maize to one of the traders last week following a bumper harvest in the area.

He said that there was a dispute over Sh200 that led to name calling and even a fight between the two before the suspect went for a knife.

“The two had differed over how Sh200 balance would be shared and in the process the accused stabbed his cousin on the chest before fleeing,” he said.

Naivasha sub-county assistant commissioner Joseph Opondo confirmed the incident adding that police had launched a manhunt for the suspect.

“Police have since opened an inquest following the murder and we are optimistic that we shall get the suspect from his hiding place,” he said,

Meanwhile, residents of Magumu village in Kinangop woke up to a rude shock to find the body of a seventeen year old student lying in a ditch.

It was not clear what led to the death of the form four student who was last seen in the company of his friends on New Year before heading home.

A witness Simon Mwathi said that the teenager was in good health and upbeat adding that the death had left many in shock.

“He was to join form four this week and we are not sure what killed him but police have launched their investigations,” he said.

Njabini OCPD Jane Munywoki confirmed the incident adding that only a post mortem would determine the cause of death.

“The body was found lying a ditch by members of the public and our officers have collected and taken it to Naivasha mortuary waiting post mortem,” she said.
