It’s unfortunate that society programmes women from a young age that by a certain time they ought to get married. If not, then they are considered not women enough or to have failed in life. Luckily, there are a few who have chosen not to be victims of such wayward practices.
Musician Sanaipei Tande says it has not been easy for her to evade the “when will you get married question?” However, she admits that it would be a good thing to take care of someone.
Even though she hopes to get two children in a few years’ to come, being a wife is just not among her current priorities.
Speaking on the Singletons series by Bikozulu, she said: “Marriage is not the ultimate goal in life and I get a lot of such questions every day. Like you are old and you need to get married. It saddens me since I’m left wondering is that the only goal.”
Tande also called out the societal thinking.
She added: “We are still living in that error that if you are not married, then you are not successful. That is very sad. Again marriage is not my ultimate goal but it would be wonderful to be married. To have someone to care for since I hear husbands are your firstborn children. It’s a lot to deal with and a mother of two if they come as twins, I am done.”
