- Darmian has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford
Barcelona are considering a surprise move for Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian this summer according to reports.
According to Daily Mail citing Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are monitoring Darmian as a possible replacement for Jordi Alba on the left.
The La Liga champions rate Real Betis' Junior Firpo and Bayern Munich's David Alaba as top choice but the pair would cost huge transfer fee.
At the moment, Barcelona director of football - Eric Abidal - and his assistant - Ramon Planes - have penciled down the likes Darmian and Philipp Max of Augsburg as alternatives according to Mundo Deportivo.
The report further added that the 29-year-old Italy international, who can play on both flanks is rated highly.
Darmian has just 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford, with United keen to sell in order to make way for summer target Harry Maguire.
He has struggled to tie down a spot and regular game-time since joining United from Torino in the summer of 2015, making just six times for the Red Devils during the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
