Microsoft Outlook for Android will soon get a dark mode

One reason I’m looking forward to Android Q is the system-wide dark mode feature that has been baked right into the new OS. But before then, plenty of developers have been working hard to add a dark theme to their apps and the next in line is, according to reports, Microsoft Outlook for Android.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is getting ready to roll out dark mode for its Outlook app for Android. This has been coming since 2018, but we finally have our first look at what dark mode feels like on the mobile email client.

The publication says it has received official renders showing off the dark theme on Outlook for Android. From the images, we can see that the theme not only affects the mail screen but also the calendar and search screens of the app. For some reason, blue accents are still present throughout the UI.

There are more than two ways of enabling dark mode on Outlook for Android. First is via the Theme section in the app’s settings and second is using the hamburger menu. Alternatively, you can have it enabled courtesy of your device’s battery saving mode, where it will automatically turn on/off depending on the current settings.

Dark modes are loved not only for their eye-catching experience but also for their battery-saving capabilities. Unfortunately, it’s unknown when exactly this feature will arrive on the public version of Outlook for Android, although we know it shouldn’t be long considering both the desktop and web versions already got this mode.
