MOTORIST WHO ASSAULTED TRAFFIC COP WANTS AN OUT-OF-COURT SETTLEMENT.

A city driver who was captured on camera assaulting a police officer on duty yesterday has been charged in before a Nairobi court.

Martin Waitima appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and denied charges of assault and resisting arrest.

Waitima is accused that on March 17, along Uhuru highway in Nairobi, he willfully and unlawfully assaulted Mark Kirimi Muriara who was executing his duties. The charges also stated that he resisted arrest.

The motorist pleaded with the court to be allowed to settle the matter out of court. The court agreed to the request and freed him on cash bail of Sh30, 000.

If convicted, the driver will serve ten year imprisonment or pay a fine of Sh1 million.
