Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has pledged to transform Kitale town into a 24-hour economy if elected Trans Nzoia Governor.
Natembeya expressed concern over the sanitation related-illnesses facing residents of the town and pledged to give it a facelift if elected governor.
He regretted the town’s dilapidated physical infrastructure and poor sanitation, saying it was a big challenge to local and foreign investors.
“I have taken a lead in the clean-up to demonstrate my desire to bring sanity to this town. I promise one of my obligations will be to ensure Kitale town receives a facelift within my first 100 days in office,” promised Natembeya who is a gubernatorial aspirant via Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
To attract investment and accelerate a 24 hour economy, Natembeya said the town required an urgent transformation.
“The dilapidated sanitation condition of the town is discouraging. Thus, the county cannot attract worthy investors,” remarked Natembeya, adding investors flock to places with favourable and friendly business environment.
He pledged to engage relevant stakeholders to come up with strategies to restore the town’s lost glory.
Natembeya said the mountains of garbage that have become a permanent feature in the town will be a thing of the past.
“My desire is to make Kitale a model town and a 24 hour economy. I want residents to enjoy the benefits and fruits of devolution,” he assured.
Earlier, Natembeya made an impromptu visit to Kitale County Hospital where he settled medical bills for several patients.
The former Regional Commissioner said he had received information some patients were unable to raise required cash to clear hospital bills.
“It is disturbing some residents cannot raise hospital bills and this is one of the reasons that I have offered to become the next governor to fix the problem,” he said.
