French star N'Golo Kante has dealt Chelsea a heavy injury setback after he was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of Japan with a knee injury.

The combative midfielder was hopeful of playing in one of the remaining pre-season matches in Japan after missing most of training sessions.

“N’Golo Kante has travelled back to the UK to continue his rehabilitation for an injury connected to the knee problem he sustained at the end of last season,” a Chelsea spokesman was quoted as saying.

According to the Mirror, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was looking forward to have Kante at the start of the new Premier League season.

"I think, I've said it out loud before, that Kante is one of the greatest midfield players in the world," he said.
"In the last few years his performances have been outstanding, and one of the pleasures of me getting this job is that I am able to work with players of his quality," he submitted.
