DAILY POST: NLC angers Kenyans with its ridiculous decision on RUTO’s Weston Hotel that stands on grabbed public land! Look at the verdict? Heads must roll

Friday January 25, 2019-The National Land Commission has established that
Deputy President
William Ruto‘s Weston Hotel
stands on grabbed public land belonging to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority
(KCAA).

However, the
commission has allowed Ruto to have both the hotel plus the land on condition
that
he pays Kenya Civil Aviation Authority
(KCAA) for the land at current market rates.
In 2018, the disputed piece of land was
valued at Ksh300 million
.
KCAA has,
however, rejected the decision by NLC to hand the hotel and the land to Ruto stating
that it was not interested in compensation and would push for the hotel to
be demolished.
Through KCAA
Corporate Secretary, Cyril Wayong’o, the KCAA said the parastatal Board of
Directors will sit and consider an appeal, saying the decision by NLC may set a
bad precedent.
“It
will mean going forward that somebody can just grab public land and allege that
he or she is an innocent purchaser, and thereafter decide to compensate, which
is wrong,” he stated.
The
move has also angered Kenyans who wanted the hotel demolished.
According
to the air travel regulator, the hotel which is just opposite Wilson Airport is
a safety hazard.
