Over 7500 students in Taita receive Ksh 40 million bursaries

Over 7500 students from both college and secondary schools in Taita Taveta County have received Ksh 40 million in fees bursaries from the County government.

Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja who issued the education bursary cheques at Wundanyi town hall said his administration has increased the annual bursary allocation from Ksh 24 million to Ksh 85 million.

The latest bursary disbursement brings to Ksh 60 million the amount of money paid out to beneficiaries in the region in the 2018-2019 financial year.

Elsewhere, Narok Governor Samuel Tunai has said that his administration will prioritize education to ensure no child is left behind from obtaining formal education.

Tunai said that there has been a significant improvement in performance in the national examinations, after the county injected 3 billion shillings towards improving infrastructure in both public primary and secondary schools.

Tunai who was flagging off books said despite education being under the national government, his administration was chipping in to supplement the ministry of education to redeem the sector that had been ailing.

He said that since his intervention, the county’s performance had improved in 2018 national examination compared to 2017.

Finally, Mwiki Primary School head teacher Joseph Kamua is appealing to the ministry of education to expand the school’s infrastructure that has been strained beyond limit.

The school currently has a population of over 3000 pupils and has limited space for expansion.
