‘Raila Has Been Fighting Me After I Refused to Be His Lover,’ Woman Claims

Former presidential candidate Nazlin Umar has linked her political woes to ODM leader Raila Odinga. She ran for the top seat in 2007 against Raila and former President the late Mwai Kibaki.

She tried again in the 2013 and 2017 General Elections, but was blocked by the electoral commission for failing to meet the requirements.

However, Umar believes that the former Prime Minister is behind her predicament.

Speaking during an explosive interview on Spice FM, she explained that she was once the lead think-tank at Raila’s secretariat before “our big fallout in 2006”.

She claimed that she asked the opposition chief to accompany her to a peace tour in Korea and he agreed.

“What I didn’t know is that Raila had other intentions. First, he did not tell his wife Mama Ida Odinga that he was travelling with me. That should have been a red flag.

“Then he tried to hit on me, but I rejected his proposal. Since then, I have known little peace,” she said.

Umar said she is a victim of political persecutions.

“When he was Prime Minister, he instructed the police to arrest me and take away my expensive cars.”

However, she was unable to explain how Raila has been using State power to harass her given that most of the time he has been outside government.

In this year’s election, she still wanted to run for President as an independent candidate, but the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already disqualified her.

Umar in not new to controversy.

A few years ago, she told Radio Jambo that she had a romantic affair with Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.

She claimed that she dumped Duale after suspecting that he wanted to harm her.

The politician added that the former National Assembly Majority Leader would trail her everywhere.
