ODM leader Raila Odinga has had a busy day traversing various counties in the Mt Kenya region.
He began in Nanyuki town in Laikipia where he held a presser with governors Nderitu Muriithi (the host), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua) and James Nyoro (Kiambu). Several MPs and tycoons were also present.
From there, the former Prime Minister headed in Nyeri where he interacted with residents in Naromoru, Karatina, and Chaka.
The opposition chief was spotted in Chaka market buying groceries from small-scale traders. A resident in Chaka also gifted him a pair of shoes. The gift-giver got a rare opportunity to help Raila put on the shoes in his high-end car.
The next stop was in Sagana, Kirinyaga county where he bought rice.
More stopovers were made in Kenol, Witheithie, and Githurai towns.
In all the rallies, which were fully packed, Raila called on residents of the region to back him for the presidency next year.
He rubbished claims that he would revenge and marginalise the region he becomes the Head of State.
“In 2002, I vigorously campaigned for Mwai Kibaki and you refer to me as a warrior, I believe I’m still a warrior and I need your votes. We have to liberate this country once and for all,” he said.
Unlike previous visits to the Mt Kenya region, this time around more elected leaders showed up.
Apart from the mentioned governors, Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege were in Raila’s entourage.
Raila has camped in the larger Mt Kenya region since Saturday when he a church function organised by the Akorino sect.
