Kenyans on witnessed a chaotic Wednesday morning when Twitter went up in flames with the #RigathisStealingWife trend. Unlike previous online topics targeting politicians, this one went for spouse of Rigathi Gachagua, the Mathira MP. The outspoken Tanga Tanga legislator has been on the headlines over what investigative agencies claim to be fraud, involving up to 5 billion shillings and his wife, Dorcas, played a major role.

Two weeks ago, The High Court froze more than 200M shillings in the MP’s accounts. This freezing had been done pending a petition by the Assets and Recovery to have the money handed over to the government.
The Agency had previously made a successful application barring MP Rigathi and five companies associated with him and his close allies from transacting with the accounts at Rafiki Microfinance Bank for seven days. The order was given to allow ARA to probe money laundering and graft claims against the legislator.
