Deputy President William Ruto has set the stage to get back at President Uhuru Kenyatta over the Executive Order Number 1 of 2019 dated January 21 which he and allies have privately opposed.

Yesterday beleaguered DP Ruto flew into the Port City of Mombasa for a one-on-one meeting with Uhuru but his mission was thwarted by Uhuru who chose to meet him briefly at a public restaurant leaving the deputy president extremely frustrated.

Kenyan News Day reliably learnt that the DP has now put in motion his second plan which is to challenge the Uhuru’s new governance plan in court with the intention of having it declared in unconstitutional.

Even as he takes the head of state to court, Ruto and his team met with Senior Counsel Professor Tom Ojienda for lengthy consultations. The meeting resolved to move to court to obtain temporary orders to block Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i from assuming his new responsibilities.

Ruto will also be petitioning the courts to examine the executive order which radically reorganised the government administration and established a four-tier executive authority. He wants the court to issue orders throwing out the Executive Order in its entirety.

As we went to press, we could not confirm which civil society organizations would be used to execute Ruto’s plans which have the potential to frustrate government business, delivery of services to the public and to impede parliamentary business.

More follows.
