Samburu governor alleges witch hunt in his arrest over graft allegations

Samburu County Governor, Moses Lenolkulal is alleging witch hunt and political mischief in his arrest over alleged graft.

Lenolkulal who was speaking at the EACC headquarters after questioning says he is ready to cooperative with detectives but denies looting from the public coffers.

At the same time he downplayed any involvement choosing to remain mum over h is alleged linkage to companies said to have receive monies in dubious contracts with the county government.

According to EACC the funds which were lost over a period of four months were allegedly siphoned through real estate development projects in and out of the county.

The alleged conspiracy is said to have involved the governor’s close family, members, county employees and friends who received massive tenders.

A sizeable chunk of the funds was allegedly channeled to a company linked to a former primary school teacher whose newly acquired wealth is now a target of investigations by the EACC.

Other beneficiaries of the funds are listed as the governor’s personal assistant, who allegedly received 13 million shillings.

The EACC is also said to be eyeing a couple of real estate companies where the funds are believed to have been invested.

Meanwhile, two legislators snubbed summons by the DCI in a case in which they are accused of defaming Wajir County woman representative.

Eldas MP Aden Keynan and his Fafi counterpart Abdihakim Osman Mohamed are among four legislators who were summoned by the DCI regarding a defamatory video.

The DCI issued the summons through parliament seeking to have Eldas MP Adan Keynan, Fafi Legislator Abdihakim Osman, Isiolo woman representative Rehema Dida Jaldesa and Kirinyanga Woman Representative Purity Ngirichi appear for questioning.

Keynan and Abdihakim who were expected at the DCI headquarters on Monday at 10 pm failed to show up. Jaldesa and Ngirichi are expected at the DCI headquarters on Tuesday.

Parliament has since asked the DCI to issue the summons directly to the legislators citing it was not a parliamentary matter.
