In an Executive Order on Monday, Uhuru named Matiangi as chairperson of a newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee that has all cabinet secretaries as members. In addition, President Kenyatta transferred the management and co-ordination of national transport and safety to Dr Matiang’i docket. The elevation of Matiang’i with supervisory roles across government is likely to whittle down Deputy President William Ruto’s influence. But commenting on social media Thursday, Ruto welcomed Uhuru’s appointment and urged government officers to set up committees at all levels of governance for purposes of effective implementation of Jubilee development agenda. "Government officers at all levels should align their operations to the order issued by the President setting up committees at county, regional, national (technical) and national (cabinet) for purposes of effective implementation of projects and programmes and efficient communication," Ruto said on Twitter.
