Shocking Letter That Agnes Tirop Husband Wrote Before Fleeing Murder Scene

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have found a confession letter penned by the husband of slain athlete Agnes Tirop.

Keiyo North Sub-County DCIO, Andolo Munga, revealed that Ibrahim had put in writing the said letter and left it at their home as he planned to flee to a neighbouring country.

The investigation officer did not expose the contents of the letter as investigations are still underway. He pointed out that the details in the note coincided with claims of various athlete’s relatives that their kin was a victim of domestic violence.

Through the note, Ibrahim claimed that the relationship was full of fights. He owned up his mistake and moved on to claim that he decided to end the life of the two-time bronze medalist in world 10,000 metres race as an answer to the problems in their relationship.

“The threshold for murder is overwhelming. The autopsy report and the suspect’s confession note, together with the murder weapons — a knife and a wooden club (rungu), have given us overwhelming evidence, which points to murder,” said the DCIO.

“The athlete had cuts to her head as well as several stabs in the neck. The rungu exerted blunt force trauma, badly damaging her brain, leading to her death.”

The DCIO further stated that the CCTV report, which will be out on Friday, October 22, will help in the investigations and reveal whether Ibrahim had an aide during the time of murder.

Tirop’s younger sister, Evelyn Jepng’etich, who was living with the athlete, confessed that her sister had opened up about her rocky relationship with Ibrahim. She said that Tirop was abused and even beaten up many times.

“My sister had confided in me that Rotich was abusing her, but she opened up too late. On Monday night, I heard a loud commotion in my sister’s bedroom before she was discovered dead on Wednesday.” She said.

The autopsy results of Tirop’s body conducted on October 19 at Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) mortuary indicated that the athlete died due to stab wounds and an injury in her head inflicted by a blunt object.

The suspect was arrested last week in Mombasa while trying to flee out of the country and is currently in police custody.

He was arraigned on Tuesday and detectives allowed to hold him for 10 days, pending the conclusion of investigations.
