The Teachers Service Commission has launched investigations into alleged drug abuse in at least six schools in Busia County.
The commission says many students have not completed their studies owing to rampant drug usage and is calling on teachers to be more vigilant.
Teachers Service Commission Busia County Director Ibrahim Rugut says education stakeholders are looking for mechanisms to prevent students from accessing drugs.
He is at the same time urging the community to share any information they have with the police, chiefs and education officers.

Calling on teachers to be vigilant Rugut noted that drug and substance abuse continues to affect the student population in schools within the region.
A recent report by the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse implicated teachers as access points for hard drugs in schools.
