Onlookers mill around the vehicle which was ferrying the teacher to hospital

Residents of a village in Mwingi, Kitui county were left in shock Sunday after a local teacher took her own life.

The prominent teacher is said to have committed suicide after her husband allegedly refused to give her money. The deceased, 43, was found dangling from the roof of their bedroom at around 9 am on Sunday. She was still breathing when she was found.

The victim’s husband, Bernard Musyoka, attempted to save her by cutting the rope. She, however, took her last breath as she was being rushed to Mwingi Level 4 hospital.

Mr Musyoka said his wife, a teacher at Kakunike Primary school, waited until their children and the house help had left the house then hanged herself.

Police officers visited the scene and took statements from the teacher’s husband as investigations were launched.

The body was taken to Mwingi Level 4 hospital mortuary.
