Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gestures on the touchline

Jurgen Klopp has ruled out a move to Liverpool for Gareth Bale this summer.

Bale is free to leave Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane urging the Welshman to move on before the start of next season.

A move to China has been mooted for Bale, who insists he will not be forced out of the Bernabeu.

As things stand, no Premier League club has made an approach but former Liverpool skipper Paul Ince suggested the Reds should sign him if they can afford him.

But Klopp has ended speculation over a possible late move for the Wales international.

"I don't know why these fantastic football players have such strange ideas," Klopp said on Ince's comments.

"Bale is a player of Real Madrid and if he leaves he will be outstandingly expensive, big wages, all that stuff.

"He is a really outstanding player, I like him a lot. He won the Champions League final pretty much alone two years ago.

"I don't know what has happened but it is not just about him, it is about all these players.

"We have to create a team, a team is not a collection of individual players and then in the end you have the best.

"They have to work together, fit with each other and that is what we are working for, not going for these huge individual players."

Liverpool have been tipped to make moves for the likes of Nicolas Pepe this summer but Klopp will not splash the cash as he did a year ago.

The Reds are expected to bring in cover in the full-back positions before the transfer window closes.

Meanwhile…

Jamie Carragher is not convinced Klopp will sign a new deal at Liverpool.

Ex-Liverpool man Jamie Carragher

Klopp is halfway through the six-year deal he agreed in 2016, with his contract expiring in 2022.

Liverpool are ready to hand the German a bumper extension but Klopp is in no rush to enter negotiations over a new contract.

Liverpool legend Carragher thinks this could be Klopp's final contract at Anfield, with his current deal taking his tenure to seven years.

And he insists the Reds players must make this a trophy-laden period following their Champions League success.

“This group of players have got to be looking at this next three or four years because Klopp’s got three years left on his contract," Carragher told Pundit Arena in Dublin.

"I’m not sure if he would sign another one. He’s only ever stayed at a club for seven years.

“I think over the next two or three years Liverpool have got to be looking to try to pick up as many trophies as possible

You want the league, that’s the obvious one. They’ve got competitions this year, the World Club Cup, the Super Cup, just pick as much as you can before he goes.

"And hopefully, over the next two or three years, one of those will be the league for Klopp.”

Liverpool were pipped to the title by Manchester City last season despite reaching 97 points and Carragher admits they may struggle to repeat that feat again.

"Only losing one league game was a phenomenal achievement. 97 points was a phenomenal achievement," he added.

"So, in some ways, if Liverpool got 90 points, I don’t think they’d have gone backwards, because it’s so difficult to do again. But, they’ve just got to hope that City come back as well, a little bit."
