Samson Mbarathi follows his shot.

Samson Mbarathi’s patience paid off at the final hole when he sank a birdie to win the club nite tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club, Mombasa, over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 21 Mbarathi posted 38 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner beating a team of 120 golfers at the 18-hole course.

Mbarathi’s victory came at the back of five pars before the game-winning birdie at par three 18th. The birdie meant Mbarathi would not rue a horrendous scratch at the par four-twelfth hole and a mixed bogey shots in the rest of both nines.

“I think this was  my day for I had actually  given up, but finally got saved  with the lone birdie. I am happy to register my first victory  this year,” said  Mbarathi.

It was not, however, a smooth  win  for Mbarathi, who ended  up  tying on the same score with  club mate handicap 10 Mohamed Khaku. Mbarathi prevailed on count back.

Handicap 16 John Smith also from the club was third on a score of 36 points.
