Kenya Cup sides Homeboyz, Mwamba, Oilers, Nondies, Nakuru and KCB are through to the Kabeberi Sevens quarter-finals after the opening pool stage matches yesterday.

The top sides will be joined by championship outfit Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) RFC who continue to impress in the sevens series.

Homeboyz, who are the Kabeberi Sevens defending champions, finished top of pool B after thrashing Monks, Mean Machine and MMUST 22-0, 31-0 and 22-0.

The Deejays were followed closely by MMUST in second place with the Kakamega-based students beating Monks 29-17.

Tyson Juma opened the scores while Venance Shikuba bagged a brace. Timothy Mmasi and Isaiah Mulongo added the other tries to put the game beyond Monks reach.

The students then sealed their quarterfinals berth with a close 12-10 win over Mean Machine.

In pool C, Mwamba thrashed Egerton Wasps 53-0 before edging out Kenya Harlequin 17-12 to qualify for the Main Cup quarters.

Nondies would then beat Wasps 24-0 and knock out Quins after defeating them 26-24 in a hotly contested match.

Quins will now play in the Challenge Trophy after winning one match against Wasps and will be joined by Impala.

In pool A, favourites KCB were handed a shock 12-10 defeat by Oilers with Derrick Keyoga’s brace ending KCB’s seven-match winning streak in 2019 national sevens circuit.

The Kakamega Sevens champions would however bounce back to winning ways by beating Impala 28-7 and Meru 32-0 to keep their dream of completing a double circuit win alive.

Oilers finished top of the pool after drawing with impala 21-21 and defeating Meru 24-7.

Meanwhile, Australia recovered from last week's loss to the Springboks to beat Argentina 16-10 in the Rugby Championship yesterday, giving scrum-half Will Genia an emotional send-off in his final Test in Brisbane, adds AFP reports.

A week after their disappointing 35-17 loss to South Africa, the Wallabies gave Genia a fitting farewell at his home ground prior to his retirement from Tests after the Rugby World Cup.

He was outstanding against the Pumas, organising the backline brilliantly and often getting the Wallabies out of trouble with a fine kicking game.

Both sides scored one try each, but three penalties from Christian Lealiifano -- back with the Wallabies after fighting off leukaemia -saw the Wallabies home in front of 32,000 supporters at Suncorp Stadium.

Former bad boy James O'Connor also came on in the second half for his first appearance since the Wallabies tore up his contract in 2013 following a series of transgressions.

The Wallaby defence, which leaked five tries in last week's loss, was vastly improved this week as they easily handled the threat from the dangerous Pumas outside backs.

They held the visitors tryless until six minutes from full-time when number eight Facundo Isa crashed over at the back of a rolling maul to get the Pumas to within six points.
