Serbian international midfielder Nemanja Matic has agreed on a contract extension with Manchester United.

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the announcement during a pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester Derby.

“We have agreed with him so he will stay. 100 per cent,” confirmed Solskjaer.

With his contract rendering him a free agent in the summer, the 31-year-old was among the players anticipated to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

However, a re-introduction into Solskjaer’s starting line-ups of late has seen Matic regain his form.

Solskjaer’s men need only three points to tie with fourth-placed Chelsea, who welcome Everton to Stamford Bridge at 5:00 pm.

However, a fifth-place finish could guarantee them a Champions League place last season, should Manchester City’s European ban appeal fail to materialise.

Solskjaer has praised the side’s brave showing of late, where they currently boast a nine-game unbeaten streak.

Defender Harry Maguire is still a doubt to play having not been spotted at the Lowry hotel by the time the team arrived. The Englishman sustained an ankle injury in training before the FA Cup clash with Derby County earlier in the week.

Welsh winger Daniel James is also a doubt after picking up a knock.

The match starts at 7:30 pm.
