Thursday January 24, 2019-President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Interior CS, Fred Matiang'i, as chairman of powerful National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, which will supervise, monitor and implement Government projects; a role that was previously played by Deputy President William Ruto.

His elevation has been met with mixed reactions with some claiming that the move by the President was meant to tame Deputy President William Ruto. However, North Mugirango MP, Joash Nyamoko, has rubbished claims that Matiang'i was being used by the State to undermine Deputy President William Ruto following his latest appointment. He called on Matiang’i to use his newly found powers to unite Abagusii community before thinking about overshadowing Ruto. “I don't think that he's being used to undermine the DP.” “He’s just doing Cabinet roles and nothing is wrong with that.” “It’s part of his responsibility.” “The real task which should worry Matiang’i is uniting Abagusii behind him.” “We have our internal challenges," he said.
