Tottenham Confirm Signing of Emerson Royal From Barcelona

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has completed the signing of Barcelona defender Emerson Royal for a reported fee of £21.5m.

The 22-year-old Brazilian right-back has signed a five-year contract which will keep him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2026.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona, subject to international clearance and a work permit,” read a statement from the club.

Emerson departs Camp Nou having made just three appearances since joining Barca from Real Betis in 2019.

He spent the last two seasons with Real Betis, and scored one goal and recorded four assists in 34 LaLiga appearances last season.

Emerson will wear the number 12 shirt which was vacated by previous owner Victor Wanyama who joined MLS side CF Montreal in March 2020.

He becomes Tottenham’s fifth signing after the arrivals of Cristian Romero, Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr.

Spurs top the Premier League table with a perfect record from their opening three matches after beating Watford, Manchester City and Wolves all 1-0.

Emerson could make his debut as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men play against Crystal Palace on Sunday 11th September.
