Two-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses in Kisumu

A two-storey building under construction has collapsed in Mamboleo, Kisumu county.

According to reports, the building collapsed at some minutes past 1:00 pm.

Seven people including a woman who served food to the construction workers is among those trapped in the rubble.

“We did not anticipate what happened. We just heard a cracking sound and then the building collapsed,” a construction worker at the site told the Standard.

“We were having lunch on site and I had just left her serving my colleagues before the incident happened.”

Police officers and the larger community in Kisumu are carrying out a rescue mission at the scene.

The incident comes barely one week after a five-storey building partially collapsed in Kinoo, Kiambu County.

The five-storey building was on Monday, 6th September brought down.

Another five-storey building collapsed in Gachie in Kiambu county, killing three workers.

The tragedy occurred at around 3:45 pm on Monday, 30th August, when construction workers were putting up the sixth floor of the building.

More than 10 people, including construction workers, who were trapped in the debris, were rescued.
