President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed and re-appointed a number of 2017 General Election losers and close allies and relatives of key political figures.

Among appointees are Uhuru's brother-in-law Victor Pratt and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's wife Zahra Bahlewa who will now chair Retirement Benefits Authority and sit as member at Tourism Research Institute respectively.

In a gazette notice on Friday, May 3, the Head of State also appointed former MPs Jamleck Maina (Tana River Development Authority), Dennis Waweru (Kenya Investment Authority), Jebii Kilimo (Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund).

Also in the list are former Kitui governor Julius Malombe who will now head Kenya Water Towers Agency as well as 2017 Siaya gubernatorial aspirant Nicholas Gumbo who is coming in as Kenyatta National Hospital board chairman.

However, the president dropped Kenya's ambassador to Austria, Hassan Ali Wario from 18 new and replaced him with Robin Njeru Githae who moves from Washington DC in the US.

The former Sports cabinet secretary and six other ministry officials are facing graft charges over embezzlement of KSh 55 million meant for Kenyan athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

At least 15 Foreign Affairs serving officers have been promoted to the ambassadorial positions.

For a government that rode on the platform of youth empowerment, the recycling of political rejects was not going to be received with joy.
