UHURU celebrates honest Matatu conductor who returned passenger’s wallet with Sh30, 000 intact.

Friday, January 25, 2019 - President Uhuru Kenyatta celebrated a Matatu conductor who returned a passenger’s wallet with Ksh30, 000 during the National Anti-Corruption Conference at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.

Uhuru heaped praise on the conductor identified as Daniel Mwaura for his honesty and urged Kenyans to emulate him in order to slay the monster of corruption.

"I want to take this day to acknowledge citizens of virtue... citizens like Daniel Mwaura a matatu tout on the Gachie city centre route," President Kenyatta said.

 "... as described on social media he did something remarkable and unimaginable in this economy by returning a customer’s wallet with Ksh30,000 still intact," he added. Mr Mwaura had found the wallet with the money which the owner later revealed was meant to pay a hospital bill for his sick child. “I believe that one should do to others what he expects them to do to him, and even if I had pocketed that money, Sh30,000 could not have ended all my problems," Mwaura said in an interview back in April, 2018. "Even if it had been more than Sh30,000, I would still have surrendered it because I believe in earning clean money,” he added.

The President also mentioned gallant police constable Joshua Ombati who pursued and arrested two robbery suspects who had made away with Ksh400, 000 and handed over the money to its owner.

Uhuru was speaking at an Anti-Corruption Conference in Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi, on Friday.
