Uhuru’s Lawyer, Evans Monari, is Dead

Senior Counsel Evans Monari has passed away after a long illness.

According to his family, Monari died on Monday night, 4th October, at the Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Monari was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s lawyer and represented him at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of crimes against humanity.

President Kenyatta has mourned the lawyer as a solid and dependable legal mind who “leaves behind a rich legacy of professional success.

“It is regrettable that we’ve lost Evans to the cruel hand of death after a long illness. He was one of our country’s leading lawyers, who distinguished himself as a dependable resource as seen from his successes,” he mourned.

Until his death, Monari was an advocate of the High Court where he served at Coulson Harney Advocates as the Head of Dispute Resolutions.

He was also the co-vice-chair of the International Bar Association Africa Forum and a member of the Council for Law Reporting’s Board of Directors.

Alongside his stellar legal practice, lawyer Monari also served in several public appointments, among them the 2016 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel.
