- Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo did not only accompany his wife to her impeachment hearing but also led the governor's legal team
- An 11-member Senate team led by Senator Malala has until Thursday, June 25, to listen to Waiguru's defence
- in December 2019, Waiguru's husband also defended his wife when MP Moses Kuria accused her of embezzling the controversial NYS fund
As Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru's political career is being shaken from right, left and centre, her husband lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo has proved she is not facing the tempestuous storm alone.
Waiganjo accompanied his wife to the Senate to her impeachment hearing which kickstarted on the morning of Tuesday, June 23.
Lawyer Waiganjo proved Ann Waiguru was not alone in the impeachment battle.
The lawyer did not only accompany the embattled governor but was part of the legal team that would defend the governor against all the ills that the county Assembly levelled against her when more than the requisite two-thirds impeached her early this month.
You may want to classify it as a conflict of interest, but the determined law mogul did not seem to mind that as he led the lawyers to defend his wife.
An 11-member Senate committee led by Kakamega Senator Cleopas Malala has until Thursday, June 26, to listen to the defence of Waiguru case.
The embattled county chief has been in a protracted stalemate with the Assembly which culminated in her removal from office on the grounds of corruption, abuse of office charges among other allegations.
Waiguru was impeached on the grounds of corruption among other ills.
On Saturday, June 20, she armed herself with files stacked in several boxes ahead of her impeachment defence.
"In compliance with the Senate's request I have today filed my responses to the impeachment motion filed for my removal from office by the Kirinyaga County Assembly. May truth, justice and the rule of law prevail,'" she said in a tweet.
This incident of her husband's defence in Senate took Kenyans to a time in December 2019 when he also stood up for his wife when MP Moses Kuria accused her of mismanaging the National Youth Service (NYS) funds.
Waiganjo could not sit still as the lawmaker accused his wife of the debacle of the NYS project and he resorted to sending Kuria a personal message in his inbox asking him to quit abusing his other half.
The legislator shared on his Facebook page a screenshot of the conversation where Waiguru's new hubby asked the MP to stop abusing his partner but he could criticise her politics.
"Hon Moses Kuria, stop abusing my wife. You can criticise her politics but you will stop abusing her," read the message.
