Waluke Sentence: Ksh727.5M Fine or 7 Years in Jail

Sirisia MP John Waluke and co-accused Grace Sarapay Wakhungu appeared in court on Thursday, June 25 for sentencing after being found guilty of fraud in a Ksh297 million maize scandal. 

In her ruling, Magistrate Elizabeth Juma issued fines to Waluke totalling Ksh727.5 Million with a single fine of Ksh 594,175,000 or a jail sentence of seven years on the third count.

Wakhungu's fines totalled to Ksh707.7 Million as she was issued with fines in accordance with sentencing laws when it came to corruption cases.

The two were charged alongside Erad Supplies & General Contracts Limited (Erad); a company where the two are shareholders.

Juma ordered that the conviction for Waluke be served to the speaker of the National Assembly and the Public Service Commission (PSC)

She further noted that if the fine is paid, NCPD will be compensated for the amount lost.

Waluke was represented by Lawyers Evans Ondieki, Samson Nyamberi, Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari while Assistant Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Alexander Muteti, Gitonga Riungu, and Mercy Gateru represented the state in the matter.

4) and a further fine of Ksh 100,000,000 for having benefitted (or 7 years in prison)

Grace Wakhungu

1) Count 1 -  fine of Ksh 100,000 (or 1 year in jail)

2) Count 2 - Ksh100,000 (or 1 year in jail)

3) Count three - Ksh 500,000 (or three years in prison ) + 594,175,000 which is double the amount NCPB lost (or 7 years in prison ) 

2) Count four- Ksh 500,000 (or three years in prison) plus a fine of Ksh26,729,342 (or 7 years in jail)
