Xiaomi Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite to come with significantly upgraded Snapdragon chipsets

A couple of days ago, reports emerged that Xiaomi Mi A3 could debut as a rebadged Xiaomi Mi CC9e, contrary to expectations that the Mi A3 will mimic the Mi CC9 and the Mi A3 Lite to take after the Mi CC9e.

While there was some evidence to back the claim, it seemed unrealistic that the Mi A3 would get such a small chipset upgrade from Snapdragon 660 in the Mi A2 to Snapdragon 665, the chipset that powers the Mi CC9e. If anything, this should suit the Mi A3 Lite more considering the Mi A2 Lite ships with a Snapdragon 625 chipset.

And true to this, it’s now emerging that the upcoming Android One phones will indeed be based on the Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e models, but with a few tweaks here and there. Xiaomi is already teasing the Mi A3 as “coming back with a bang” and that it will be a greater deal than the Mi A2.

According to MySmartPrice, the Mi A3 will borrow from the Mi CC9 while the Mi A3 Lite will be based on the Mi CC9e. However, the Mi A3 will get a superior Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor as opposed to the Snapdragon 710 in the Mi CC9 whereas the Mi A3 Lite is alleged to come with a more powerful Snapdragon 675 SoC instead of Snapdragon 665 used in the Mi CC9e.

No complaints, if you ask around here.

While the Snapdragon 730 is a product of the same 8nm process used to make the Exynos 9820 chipsets powering local variants of the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+, the Snapdragon 675 uses the same 11nm process used to make the Snapdragon 665, but with a few performance improvements.

It’s also claimed that unlike the Mi CC9e that ships with a 720p resolution display, the Mi A3 Lite may get a superior 1080p resolution, same as the Mi A2 Lite. As for the cameras, nothing changes from what the Mi CC9 series has to offer, which means a tri-lens setup that includes a 48MP main lens is on the cards.
