14 youths and a woman, believed to be members of the Wakali Chee machete-wielding criminal gang, were Tuesday morning arrested in Vietnam, Bombolulu area, Nyali Constituency.

Their arrest follows a dawn raid in four of their hideouts, where police confiscated seven machetes and three knives.

The raid followed a tip-off of an imminent attack on the residents in the area.

The leader of the group is among those arrested, as police continue with the hunt for other members who escaped the dawn crackdown.

A woman, who has been identified as the mother of one of the suspects, was also apprehended as she tried to block the arrest of her son.

Nyali OCPD Simon Thirikwa says they are tightening loopholes to avoid the rebirth of criminal gangs who are renowned for terrorizing residents in Mombasa County.

Since the arrest of several youths of the infamous Wakali Kwanza criminal group who conducted the Bamburi attack in August this year, no major criminal incident has been reported across the county.

The suspects are currently being detained at the Nyali Police Station as investigations continue.
