Four suspects, among them a woman, have been charged with murdering human rights activist Carol Mwatha Ochieng.

Ms Betty Akinyi Nyanya, Mr Michael Onyonka Onchiri, Mr Richard Ramoya and Mr Alexander Gitau Gikonya were arraigned on Wednesday at the High Court in Nairobi.

They were not required to plead to the charge as three of the suspects did not have legal representation.

Justice Stella Mutuku directed the case to be mentioned on March 4 for the accused to take plea.

The suspects will also be taken for mental tests to establish if they are fit to stand trial.

The unrepresented suspects told the court that they will engage lawyers to defend them.

Justice Mutuku informed them that they will be prosecuted for the murder of Ms Mwatha on the night of February 6 and 7, 2019.
