The Anglican Church of Kenya has strongly opposed the Court of Appeal's proposal to lower the age of sexual consent from 18 to 16.
As reported by TUKO.co.ke earlier, Judges Roselyn Nambuye, Daniel Musinga and Patrick Kiage Tuesday, March 26, suggested that the age of consent should be lowered to 16 years, urging that it was high time for the country to consider amending the Sexual Offenses Act.

The message from the Anglican Church was relayed by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, who rubbished the proposal to lower the age of consent and held that the dominion will not support it.
The Anglican Archbishop, who was on a tour in the Archdiocese of Marsabit in Isiolo held that passing the proposal will give sexual offenders leeway to abuse underage children and be protected by the law, resulting in the pollution of moral values.
''We as a Church would like to say that we should just let the age of consent be at 18 years. This is because at that age, we can now tell they are old enough to make decisions for themselves,'' he said.
''If we pass the proposal we will be exposing our children to many evils and we will lose our value, our country and the future generation,'' he added.

The Archbishop's statement came just days after the same proposal was strongly opposed by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo and thousands of Kenyans on social media.
The vocal politician poured cold water on the idea noting it was going to increase the number of underage marriages and defilement.
"It is unconscionable that we can be contemplating, imagining or discussing lowering the age of consent to 16," said Mutula.
"The target can only be to marry off or do unprintable things to our under age girls. No way!" he added.
