- Wenger remains without a club since quitting as Arsenal boss at the end of last season

- He was initially linked with a behind-the-scenes role at Paris Saint-Germain

- However, he is now said to have been offered to Newcastle as a replacement for Rafa Benitez

Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has been tipped as a potential replacement for Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United.

Benitez's contract with the Magpies is set to expire in June and no agreement over a new deal has been reached.

The situation has sparked backroom murmurs the Spanish tactician is ready to quit Newcastle, amid growing frustration for lack of backing from the club's top brass.

According to a UK Metro report citing Chronicle Live, Wenger is among a host of managers being pushed onto the club to replace Benitez.

An agent with "strong links" with the former Arsenal manager is said to be in contact with Newcastle in an attempt to land the managerial role on behalf of the Frenchman.

It is believed the agent has so much influence on Wenger and could convince the legendary manager to consider moving to St James Park.

The 69-year-old who has been without a club since quitting from his position at Arsenal had claimed he would return to football management this year.

He was initially linked with a role at Paris Saint-Germain, but remains without a club to date and often does punditry for beIN Sports.
