Kenya’s quest for green energy received a boost as Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) reported discovering steam at Paka one well in Tiaty Constituency, Baringo County.

Baringo-Silali geothermal power project has six wells expected to add 300MW into the national grid thus aiding to drive the big 4 agenda.

In addition, Kenya has laid out plans to increase geothermal projects across the country with the Baringo-Silali project commencing in May 2019. Kenya is targeting installing 5530MW of geothermal by 2030 from the current 690mw installed capacity.

The Ksh1.5 billion Baringo-Silali project covers three geothermal prospects of Silali, Paka, and Korosi, which upon completion will lower power bills and accelerate access to electricity for households.

GDC envisions the development of industrial parks adjacent to the Baringo field that investors would take advantage due to low costs of production.
