President Yoweri Museveni. A businessman is accused of faking a call to him to intimidate an accuser.

A Ugandan businessman has denied claims he faked a phone call to the president in a bid to intimidate a man into backing off a land wrangle.

Appearing before the Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters, Ben Kavuya denied faking a call to President Yoweri Museveni to intimidate one Nelson Ndumba.

According to Ndumba, he had visited the businessman’s office over the land matter when the latter picked up his phone and ‘spoke’ to President Museveni.

“Mr President, banno abaana bantawanya (these children are disturbing me),” said the businessman.

Kavuya however countered Ndumba’s allegations, instead accusing him of perjury.

“I do not use anybody’s name to survive, not even the President’s name. It is Mr Ddumba who seems to know the President’s family. I request that this Commission investigates these allegations and if possible, charge him with perjury,”Kavuya said.

Ddumba took the businessman before the commission for allegedly forging a signature and transferring two acres of land belonging to the accuser’s late father into his name.

Merali then instructed his finance director to get in touch with the callers who gave an account number at Equity Bank, where the money was deposited.
