Members of the Pokomo Lane Association in Industrial Area, Nairobi, have written to Ethics and Ant-Corruption Commission to investigate a Sh35 million Witu/Shimo la Tewa bridge that is being constructed by the Nairobi county government in the area.

Led by an official of the organisation Samar Al-Kindy, the organisation which comprises of more than 10 companies that operate in the area said that the construction of the bridge was approved without public participation. “The bridge is built on a sewer line and whenever it rains, it floods and if its completed, it’s going to increase insecurity in this area because before they came to construct it, we had put a security barrier after thugs and street kids terrorised us here for long,” said Al-Kindy.

According to Al-Kindy, they had also built their own road that linked companies but when the NCG came in January to commence the construction of the bridge, that is supposed to end by July 30 this year, they demolished it.

“We are calling on the Nairobi Metropolitan Service Director General Mohamed Badi to intervene in this project because if its completed, we are going to have many problems emanating from security and even hawkers may come and start operating on this bridge which will have a lot of negative impact on our businesses,” Al-Kindy
