According to Sun (UK), the Reds ended their jinx under Skomina when they defeated Napoli 1-0 in the early stages of the campaign.
At the last count, the 42-year-old Slovenian had the first opportunity to officiate Liverpool’s game in 2009 as the Kop side suffered defeat at Anfield against Fiorentina.
Six years down the road, the Reds would lose against Besiktas before Skomina handled another defeat against Villarreal.
And the Slovenian was also in the middle as Liverpool were smashed 4-2 by Roma last season, but the Premier League campaigners still progressed on aggregate.
Skomina equally officiated Manchester United's comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain in Paris.
The highly-experienced referee showed stern in awarding a late controversial penalty that Marcus Rashford netted to see Man United progress to the next round.
