- David Luiz has signed a contract extension at Chelsea as he will remain at the club until 2021

- The Brazilian has scored three goals this season for the Blues

- So far in his Chelsea career, he has made a total 246 appearances, scoring 18 goals

David Luiz has penned a contract extension at Chelsea that will see him remain at Stamford Bridge until 2021.

The Brazilian has become a key figure under manager Maurizio Sarri’s system, and has made 48 appearances across the campaign.

Upon extending his stay with Chelsea, David Luiz said: "I am so happy to be here and to have this opportunity to stay. I love this club and I still have the ambition of a young player.

“It means a lot to reach another European final, and we still have the opportunity to finish in the top three of the Premier League this season and I will continue to try to do my best to help the team," he added.

On her part, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia expressed her delight over Luiz determination to remain at Stamford Bridge.

She said: “We are delighted David Luiz will be staying with the club."

“He has set the perfect example to those around him throughout the campaign and been a huge influence on and off the pitch," she added.

Luiz has scored three goals this season as Chelsea sealed a return to the Champions League and booked a place in the Europa League final.

He has made a total 246 appearances, scoring 18 goals, so far in his career.
