Popular news anchor and talk-show host Debarl Inea has joined Standard Group Plc’s KTN from Mediamax-owned K24.
Sources told Business Today that Inea had already signed his contract and would soon be unveiled as the latest star in KTN’s line-up as its steps up its news coverage with one eye on the looming 2022 General Elections.
KTN recently unveiled experienced anchor Fred Indimuli who joined the station from KBC – the state broadcaster which itself had a rebrand this year. Indimuli’s appointment followed the exit of Ben Kitili.
Kitili was a news anchor who cut a niche for himself as host of weekly political talk-show Inside Politics on KTN. He left after 8 years to join NTV as the News Editor.
Inea gained fame as the host of the morning show AM Live on NTV which featured regular round-table debates with leaders and other opinion leaders on the issues of the day. He later joined K24 in January 2021.
At K24, Inea replaced Ann Kiguta who hosted the prime-time Punchline show, a news show which features one-on-one interviews with politicians, leaders and others influential figures.
Inea first s**t to prominence as a participant in the early seasons of music reality show competition Tusker Project Fame (TPF).
The multi-talented media personality is also a Procurement Specialist.
Stations will be competing for eyeballs this election season with the politics expected to drive up ad spend for TV, Radio, Print and Out-of-Home (OOH) media.
