Details of BBI report fierce fights – Weekly Citizen

Two opposing camps are emerging within the building bridges initiatives ahead of the planned referendum slated for this year. One camp which refers to itself as BBI original claims to be the brains behind the report and the handshake politics between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

The BBI originals argue that ever since the BBI was started, they have been supporting it to the chagrin of those initially opposed to it. In fact, the BBI originals claim they started Kieleweke faction and Embrace Kenya Women to market BBI that was facing stiff challenge from those against it.

Insiders now claim that they want to bring together Kieleweke that was out to tell Kenyans that BBI was to address a number of burning political, economic and social issues from the onset and Embrace Kenya Women to work under the banner of BBI originals referred to as BBI hijackers.

The camp rotates around William Ruto allies spearheaded by leader of the majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen. They were initially opposed to the BBI but of late, they have toned down. They moved around the country earning the Tanga Tanga tag. The women support wing was Inua Mama Initiative.

In Rift Valley, BBI originals have been mandated by powerful individuals at State House and Office of the President to coordinate BBI activities on the ground to tame the BBI hijackers.

Mid last month, the BBI originals in Rift Valley held a meeting at Maasai Lodge in Kajiado to counter one held by BBI hijackers in Naivasha. The two rival camps held the meetings on the same day.

BBI originals’ meeting was attended by Elgeyo Marakwet govenor Alex Tolgos, Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny, former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto, Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko, ODM nominated MP and Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion among others.

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi who is also the Baringo senator did not attend the meeting due to the declining health of his father, former president Daniel arap Moi.

The BBI originals in the Rift Valley are mostly rebel MPs, governors, former MPs and politicians.

Elgeyo Marakwet governor Tolgos has joined the anti-Ruto camp due to what is said to be Senator Murkomen’s influence around the DP. Murkomen is a key player in the DP’s kitchen cabinet and has locked out Tolgos who has nothing to lose particularly if he fights Ruto’s presidential bid given that he is doing his second and last term as governor.

Tolgos has joined other powerful politicians in anti-Ruto camp that has tycoons David Langat, Zedekiah Bundotich Buzeki, Zakayo Cheruiyot former powerful PS in the Moi era, former cabinet ministers Musa Sirma, Franklin Bett, Henry Kosgey and Sally Kosgei. Others are Micah Kigen, a one-time PA of dead Nicholas Biwott, ex-Mandeleo ya Wanawake chairlady Zipporah Kittony.

Kuttuny who at one time served as an adviser to president Uhuru Kenyatta is said to be the link between the anti-Ruto faction and powerful civil servants surrounding Uhuru.

On the other side, Senator Gideon Moi pushes for the BBI originals.

Fear in BBI hijackers faction is that BBI is one of the strategies being used to block Ruto’s presidential bid 2022. To avoid such political scenario, the hijackers have decided to change tact and soften the hard stance initially taken.

The BBI hijackers faction now wants the report taken to the masses and want it implemented both in parliament and via a referendum.

The BBI hijackers in Rift Valley apart from Murkomen has Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen, Caleb Kositany (Soy), Oscar Sudi (Kapsabet), Joseph Kirui (Kipkelion East), Hillary Kosgey (Kipkelion West) Joseph Mutai (Bureti), Nelson Koech (Belgut), and Bernard Koros (Sigowet/Soin).

In Bomet, BBI hijackers has Dominic Koskei (Sotik), Gideon Koskei (Chepalungu), Beatrice Kones (Bomet East), Ronald Tanui (Bomet Central) and Leonard Tonui (Konoin).

In Baringo, women MP Gladwell Cheruiyot and Taity MP William Kamket are for Senator Moi as the BBI originals. The BBI hijackers in Baringo are Moses Lessonet (Eldama Ravine) Daniel Tuitok (Mogotio), Grace Kipchoim (Baringo South) and John Kandie (Baringo Central).

In Nakuru county, the Kikuyu factor is playing out with politicians in the county preferring to work with their Kalenjin counterparts in Rift Valley to avoid any political eventuality.

Whereas Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui is close to Moi family, Senator Susan Kihika and local MPs Raymond Moi elected on Kanu ticket, Jubilee MPs Francis Kiamni (Molo), Charity Kathambi (Njoro), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Joseph Tonui (Kuresoi South), Moses Cheboi (Subukia), Samuel Gikaria (Nakuru Town East) and Njunguri (Bahati) are linked to BBI hijackers.

Back to Nandi and Uasin Gishu county’s politics, talk is rife that a number of MPs are playing it safe.

Only recently, feeling pressure on the ground is the Uasin Gishu women representative Gladys Shollei decided to embrace DP Ruto camp.

Senator Margaret Kamar of Uasin Gishu is rarely seen in public. MPs said to be playing chameleon politics are Swarup Mishra (Kesses), Cornel Serem (Aldai), Alexander Kosgey (Emgwen), Julius Kibiwott (Tinderet) and Vincent Tuwei (Mosop), William Chepkut (Ainamoi), and Janet Sitienei (Turbo).

Unlike Sudi and Kositany, who have openly firing political guns to defend Ruto, others are accused of being fence sitters..

Rebel Kalenjin MP Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), and Silas Kipkoech Tiren (Moiben) are also of late not vocal as before.

In Narok, Governor Samuel Tanui, a close ally of of DP is among BBI hijackers. Another vocal face in the region is ODM MP Moitalel Ole Kenta.
