IEBC has Wednesday briefed observers from @elogkenya, media and the promoters of the Punguza Mizigo Initiative fronted by @Thirdwaykenya led by @EAukot on the ongoing Supporters Verification Process.

A referendum could soon be in the offing if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) verifies to satisfaction 1.4 million signatures presented to it by Thirdway Alliance Kenya.

The party wants the constitution amended to mainly curb theft of public money. While overseeing the process, Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot said the party was hopeful that the two week verification exercise would be free of political interference.

The proposal by Thirdway Alliance Party is pushing for the reduction of the number of Members of Parliament from 416 to 194 and scrapping of Deputy Governor’s position among others.

If it satisfied that the constitutional threshold for signatures has been met, IEBC will submit the Bill to the 47 counties for a vote, which if passed will be tabled before the two houses of parliament.
