The leaders who made the commitment during a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta vowed to collaborate and work with both the national and county governments and other stakeholders in creating awareness within their communities on the need to promote education and the wellbeing of the girl child.

Meanwhile, Baringo Woman Representative Gladwell Cheruiyot has launched a program where girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies are facilitated to continue with their education.

The lawmaker says the initiative is aimed helping girls realize their dreams despite staring at the risk of being thrown into oblivion.

Over 300 girls aged between 12 and 16 years from Baringo County have dropped out of school due to early pregnancies with Tiaty and Baringo south constituencies being the most affected.

Speaking in Kabarnet town the lawmaker says issues of teenage pregnancy have been on the rise with parents blamed on failure to play their roles properly.

Three years ago, Kenya launched the Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy, but unless bold decisions are made to implement the policy, the MP says, pregnancies among the youth will continue affecting the national development agenda.
