Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s three weddings – inclusive of their family flying across the globe for a weekend filled with adventure, is nothing new to the glamorous celebrity lifestyle.
The American Reality TV star and her rockstar husband are both multi-millionaires, so it is safe to say that they could afford every bit of the luxury they splurged on to say ‘I do’.
Entertainment website Harper’s Bazaar placed Kourtney Kardashian’s net worth at an enviable $35 million (Sh4 billion) in 2021. Life and Style Magazine backed multiple reports that Travis Barker has an equally impressive net worth, with $50 million (Sh5.8 Billion) to his name.
“The bulk of her fortune comes from her reality show salary, but also her endorsement deals. She also launched her lifestyle brand and e-commerce site, Poosh, which also likely adds to her income,” Harper’s Bazaar reports.
Life and Style Magazine wrote: “Pop-punk legends Blink-182 made their mark on the mainstream music scene in 1999, so it is no surprise drummer Travis Barker is worth a pretty penny from all those years of chart-topping hits.”
The magazine adds that besides being a successful drummer for a popular rock band, Barker has a clothing line. He has also written a book and owns several multi-million dollar properties.
When famous personalities get married, it is often an ultra-expensive affair that is far from humble. We take a look at other major celebrity weddings where no expense was spared.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
The celerity couple held three wedding celebrations in 2018; two traditional Indian ceremonies and a traditional Christian wedding.
Insider Magazine concludes that the total cost of the nuptials came to over Sh60 million.
“The pre-wedding celebrations themselves cost an estimated $61,000 (Sh7 million). Their actual wedding venue, the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, has a price tag of $60,000 (Sh7 million) a night, according to the Times of India. E! News estimates that the entire wedding cost around $800,000 (Sh93 million). Other estimates from Brides and Refinery29 put it at around $584,000 (Sh68 million).”
Brides.com describes the wealthy pair’s romance as “a whirlwind” that started in the Twitter DMs.
“He proposed in Crete with a $200,000 (Sh23 million) Tiffany cushion-cut diamond ring — and shut down the entire London store to pick it out!”
Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault
Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek is successful in her own right, but she is also married to a billionaire.
Her husband of over 12 years, François-Henri Pinault is a French Businessman and the CEO of luxury fashion group Kering. Pinault’s net worth is placed at $35 Billion (Sh4 trillion, according to Bloomberg.
“The majority of Pinault’s wealth is derived from his family’s 41 per cent stake in Kering, a publicly-traded seller of luxury goods. His son Francois-Henri is the CEO of the company. His stake is held through the family’s investment vehicle Group Artemis, which is controlled by Pinault and other members of his family, according to the company’s 2021 annual report.”
When a billionaire marries Hollywood royalty, it calls for pulling all the stops.
People magazine described the event as “Salma’s fairy-tale wedding.”
About 150 family and friends attended the 2009 nuptials held in Venice, Italy. This ceremony followed a courthouse wedding, just like Kourtney and Travis.
“The weekend celebrations kicked off Friday evening with a carnival-style masked ball at Venice’s historic Punta Della Dogana.”
Brides.com listed Hayek’s dress as one of the most expensive celebrity wedding dresses of all time. The Balenciaga gown reportedly cost $434,000 (Sh50 million), which is notably the same cost as Kate Middleton’s (Duchess of Cambridge) wedding dress.
“Hayek’s (Balenciaga) gown, designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, featured an intricately detailed deep v-neck bodice that flowed into a full-body skirt.”
George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
American actor George Clooney was known as Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor for years. But the brilliant lawyer and Human Rights activist Amal Alamuddin came along and changed all that.
Their 2014 wedding was one of the most extravagant celebrity events ever, costing a whopping $4.6 million (Sh536 million), according to Insider Magazine.
“The couple and their near 100 guests partied it up for three days in Venice as they all stayed in Cipriani hotel suites ($3 million/ Sh349 million),” Insider Magazine reported.
“They officially tied the knot with a traditional ceremony and reception to follow where they paid $300,000 (Sh34 million) for tables and set-up, $250,000 (Sh29 million) for Munaretto flowers, $30,000 (Sh3.4 million) for a 5-course reception dinner; and $160,000 (Sh18.6 million) for the top-shelf champagne, vodka, and tequila.”
Rita Dominic and Fidelis Anosike
The celebrated Nigerian actress Rita Dominic got married to her businessman beau Fidelis Anosike in April this year, and the event has been described as “all glitz, glamour and high fashion.”
The couple held a traditional wedding ceremony at Dominic’s hometown Abo Mbaise, Imo State, South-East Nigeria, as reported by South African news website IOL.
It was a star-studded affair graced by Nollywood stars like Ini Edo, Uti Nwachukwu, Chioma Akpotha, and Beverly Osu. The guests stuck to the green theme of the event and all showed up looking their best.
The traditional affair was as glamorous as ever, with the bride and her guests wearing gowns made out of traditional Nigerian ‘Asoebi’ material priced at N150,000 (Sh42,000) per outfit.
“In a new update, the cost of the stunning green George material has now been shared online by Instagram gossip blogger, Cutie Juls. According to the blogger, the outfit cost a whooping sum of N150,000 per person,” Newspot Nigeria reported.
Rita’s long term love is a media entrepreneur, known as the publisher and owner of the Daily Times newspaper.
Emmy Kosgei and Apostle Anselm Abuduko
The celebrated Kenyan gospel singer Emmy Kosgei wed Nigerian Apostle Anselm Abuduko in a lavish ceremony in 2013.
It was an affair that began with a traditional ceremony at Kosgei’s rural home of Kelewa village in Mogotio, Baringo County.
“The cross-culture dowry affair worth Sh500,000 saw three big bulls, several goats and chicken slaughtered with honey pouring in a feast spectacular enough to befit a chief’s coronation,” The Standard reported at the time.
The Christian ceremony thereafter took place at the Windsor Golf Club with a reception being held at Safari Park Hotel’s Paradise Grounds.
The wedding was attended by the who’s who in Kenya’s entertainment scene.
Opera News reported that the couple spent millions on their outfits and those of their bridal party, both for the traditional ceremony and the Christian one.
They also hired a chopper for the big day.
