Government has said it will go after telcos that facilitated Ekeza Sacco’s Chairman David Kariuki Ngare to access and illegally transfer more than Ksh1 billion of investors’ money to his own account

State Department of Co-operatives permanent secretary Susan Mochache faults the mobile money operators of interfering with investigations into his activities.

The Sacco’s accounts were shut down by commissioner for Co-operatives Mary Mungai in March 2018, but Mr Kariuki, also known as ‘Gakuyo’, continued to withdraw the deposits through mobile money platform(s).

Ms Mochache said that the state department has already requested the cash transfer details from the Communications Authority of Kenya before penalising the said telcos.
