The government has yet again declared a sustained war on narcotics mafia operating in the country.

In a major statement directed at notorious drug lords, the state destroyed a cocaine haul worth over 500 million shillings on Wednesday.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’ i proclaimed that the war on drugs is unstoppable and has no regard to the status of persons involved in the illegal trade.

In yet another demonstration of state might in the war against drug trafficking, high ranking government officials  drawn from the Judiciary, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, National Police Service and the Ministry of interior led by CS, turned up at the DCI headquarters to witness  the destruction of 100 kilograms of cocaine worth over 500 million shillings.

Matiang’ i lauded the police for their effort to combat the drug trade in the country terming the recovery of the illegal consignment as a clear testament of their integrity.

While challenging all state agencies to work as a team, a tough-talking Matiang’ i  put on notice those behind the trade on narcotics noting that none, including those perceived to have protection from authorities, will evade the full force of the law.

According to Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji,  the recovery was successful because of inter-agency collaborations disclosing that investigators and prosecutors are working as a team.

Inspector-General of Police  Hillary Mutyambai lauded the public for collaborating with police saying security agencies have made tremendous strides as a result of information availed by the public.

Earlier on Wednesday, Matiangi said there is a need for an attitude change towards the police adding that ‘members of the service are working tirelessly to weed out the elements engaging in illegal or unethical activities.

He called upon security agencies to work together and quit supremacy squabbles.

Matiangi was speaking during the launch of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority 5-year strategic plan.
