The government is exploring favorable financing terms for construction of the standard gauge railway line between Naivasha and Malaba via Kisumu.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has told KBC Channel 1 that the focus now is on revamping the old meter gauge railway between Naivasha and Kisumu by August this year so that cargo from the Port of Mombasa to Naivasha via the standard gauge railway is moved to Kisumu using the old railway.
Macharia says revamping the meter gauge railway would cost 40 billion shillings while constructing the SGR line between Naivasha and Malaba via Kisumu would cost 400 billion shillings.
