The government has suspended mining activities by a Chinese company in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha amid claims the company’s activities are posing an environmental and health risk to the residents.
China Wu Yi was ordered by the National Environmental Complaints Committee to stop its activities as investigations into its operations begin.
The residents are demanding compensation from the company alleging their activities have resulted in damage to their property.
The machines quiet after the committee ordered the immediate suspension of all activities at the quarry.

The directive came barely three days after Nakuru county government issued a warning to the company over its continued activities which according to the residents damageg their houses.
The residents in demanding the closure of the mining company accused them of violating the law by using excessive explosives, resulting in cracks in their houses, death of livestock, an increase in the amount of dust that was the cause of an increase in respiratory ailments.
NECC Chief Executive Dr John Chumo who ordered the closure of the company says they will conduct an environmental impact assessment and if found to have violated the law they will face the law.
Area MCA Stephen Ng’ethe said that the county fully supports the investors but warned against activities that are harmful to the health of residents and the environment.
